Sclerotherapy is a medical procedure used to treat varicose veins and spider veins. It involves injecting a solution, often a salt solution or a chemical irritant, directly into the affected veins. This solution causes the veins to collapse and eventually fade from view as the body absorbs them over time.
The procedure is typically performed in a doctor's office and doesn’t require anesthesia. It's minimally invasive and can reduce symptoms like pain and swelling associated with varicose veins, as well as improve the appearance of the legs. Recovery is usually quick, with most patients able to resume normal activities shortly after treatment. However, wearing compression stockings may be recommended to aid the healing process.
